Our Beautiful Gardens

My beautiful Mum, Janet is the creator of our lovely gardens that fill Abbie Lane. We have so many visitors requesting her for Hire! The gardens are filled with old wares like rusty old gates, birdhouses, ploughs, cream cans, milk cans, pretty much anything that's old and rusty! Amongst all the wares are beautifully placed cottage plants that help create the "feel" of Abbie Lane.

This is our greatest achievement, the "feel". Everybody comments on it and they enjoy coming as they feel at home and they don't want to leave. So they keep coming back and bringing their friends and family. Kids and all love it, especially the childrens' play area that's fully fenced. The mums' love it the most!

Mum is aiming to enter the gardens into the Carnival of Flowers.

On The Way!

Well, please everyone, be patient with me as I am new to this Blog World! Firstly my name is Sally Haywood and I am one of four who are the creaters of Abbie Lane. Along with my husband Steve and my parents Trevor and Janet Rochford, we all bound together to create a unique, warm, country atmosphere for our shop Gottabee Country.

At first it was just going to be our shop in an old restored church set amongst beautiful cottage gardens, but as we sat around more and more getting lost in the feel of our property, our dreams grew! We planned another 6 shops to be built amongst the gardens and in keeping with the charm of our old church.

There was an existing brick house on the property and the old shed which we boarded up with old recycled weatherboards to help match in with our rustic, vintage feel. We created so much talk in the community as the months went on and everyone was so anxious for it to be finished.

We bought the property in 2006 and we had our Grand Opening in December 2009. So it has been a long, stressful affair but as we look back now, we are so proud (and relieved!!) that it is complete. (Well, it will always change here and there as we get inspirational ideas around the place!)

I would like to thank the community of Highfields for being so supportive and for all the lovely comments that we receive. Also, those who were by us through the journey, thank you. An especially big thank you to my wonderful children, Cory, Brock and Abbie who helped us with the renovations, were extremely patient while we were so busy and stressed and for being understanding. We promise that this year 2010 is dedicated to you three. You are the reason we work so hard!
